Capture The Flag is a mode I’ve wanted to implement ever since I’ve started developing the game. It follows the basic rules of capturing the enemy’s flag while making sure your own is in its rightful place and not at the hands of some mercenary flea-bag who happens to be a friend on the other team.
This isn’t really new, because it was in v22, but I’ve changed the lighting rendering techniques. My 6-year-old Toshiba laptop ran Killplex at 10FPS. It runs at around 40, now.
I’ve also made some internal network coding changes, changed the way dynamic lights are handled, altered the whole entity networking algorithm, and fixed some bugs while at it. And that’s pretty much what’s done so far.
I’ve dropped the whole Charges implementation: they botched the gameplay a bit too much, and they didn’t really fit with my vision of the game. So yeah, that’s benched.
Next patch will probably be all bug fixes, and the patch after that might get another (jeez!) new mode. This one will be based on a Half-Life 2 mod called “Hidden: Source”, but with a few twists. Meanwhile, enjoy CTF!
